It's only been a little over two weeks since I've been in Copenhagen, and already so much has happened! So I'll try and give you the condensed version:
View of Denmark upon arrival.
Danes I met on my first day in Copenhagen.
I have a great view of "the lakes" right outside of my dorm (shown here). And on the other side of my dorm is the Botanical gardens that I can walk through to go to class!
Cal Poly friends, Farnoosh and Hanya came from Switzerland to visit!
Offices (I think)...
...that were across from Black Diamond Library (facade shown)
Nyhavn. A typical tourist place to go. This is the money shot on all the postcards...
Royal Palace.

I really really enjoy all my classes here. We have less class (two of my classes only meet once a week) and we go on more field trips! On my first day of Sustainable by Design class, we went on a field study to a Copenhagen Business School building. It has a killer atrium with great lighting and ventilation.
And for my core class, the Architecture Studio, assignment one required that we study a housing complex. And unlike some of my peers, I actually really enjoyed this assignment. But then again, I'm easily amused sometimes. We basically just had to analyze the area/architecture and then make a graphic presentation out of it. And I must say, after this assignment, I realized just how well prepared the Cal Poly kids were compared to the other students. No wonder we're ranked third nationally! :)
And for my Urban Design Journal class, we were required to sketch the Copenhagen Skyline. We climbed who knows how many stairs of a protestant church, Frue Kirke, to get this view of the city...Did I mention how much I love my classes?
But of course, I did some site seeing on my own time. Here is the Rundetårn AKA the Round Tower.
And yes, I have made some friends. This was one night where we went to a gay bar (I'm legal!). It was pretty fun/funny considering all the music was super poppy, upbeat music like Lady Gaga, Whitney Houston, Cyndi Lauper etc etc.
It was my friend, Julia's birthday this past weekend, and we went to Tivoli amusement park.
Just yesterday, our studio teacher Marc Jay took us to Christianshavn. This is the area of Copenhagen he lives in. He showed us the courtyard of his living complex where there is a community turtle that has its own leash! It was kind of adorable...
Marc Jay just happens to be the most coveted studio teacher at DIS from word of mouth. He worked at BIG (a prestigious Denmark architecture firm) and is supposedly a great teacher as well. Lets just say I'm really lucky to have gotten assigned to his studio this semester. He showed us the Figure 8 building, one of many buildings which BIG designed.
Oh and also while I've been in Denmark, I joined a Badminton club. Yesterday was my first practice. All the members were Danish students/grads so they spoke Danish A LOT. All Danish people know English though so they gladly translated to me what the coach was saying during practice. It was surprising how different some of the drills are from what I am used to. I was definitely a little disoriented and made a million mistakes but it was such a fun practice. I forgot just how much I've missed badminton. I definitely will keep this up during the school year!
All in all, Copenhagen has been awesome!
Hey, I enjoyed it, keep it coming. -al
