After an 11 hour flight, I am back in good 'ol America. My family and I already finished the Lagkagehuset pastries I brought back to the US and quickly reverted back to our regular familiar chitchat. I said my hello's to my precious pet turtle. I gorged on my mother's cooking. And I gawked at what is now my own car. AH homeee....

May 22 & May 23: More goodbyes
On Sunday, my friend Shelley and I went to Meyer's bakery, the supposedly best bakery in Norrebro. It was her last day in Copenhagen and I spent time with her as a final goodbye until we see each other again in fifth year.
I bought a traditional Danish pastry called a Tebirke.
Then we went to the graveyard/park nearby where famous people such as HC Andersen, and Niels Bohr are buried.
On the 23rd, Some of us had another BBQ at FaelledParken, one of the parks near my apartment. I love parks in Denmark. The grass is soft and everybody just lies on the grass when the weather is nice and the sun is warm.
My roommate and I spent my last night in Copenhagen together. AND SHE BOUGHT ME A ROYAL COPENHAGEN THERMAL MUG as a goodbye present. I had already bought one for myself, but I love the one she gave me so much more because it is from her. She chose the pink color because she said it would remind me of her apartment and the pink sofas in the living room. I am gushing at how awesome she is.

The Museum of Modern Glass Art, Cisternerne: May 21
Today, my friend Brian and I went to the Cisternerne in Frederiksberg.
We shared a limited edition of Somersby Cider, Blackberry flavor on the way over:
Cider in Denmark/Europe is alcoholic, but it still tastes like a soda. :) And something you can do in Copenhagen is drink alcohol of any kind while on the streets and not get in trouble for it. Ah legal drinking in public... another thing I will miss about Europe.
At first glance, the museum reminds me of the Paris Louvre, except the prisms are set atop of a park.
But underground, it is a cold and haunting atmosphere, a great contrast to Paris's Louvre. The floors are coated with a coat of water and you can hear people's voices echo.
Underground, it was both sculpture and stained glass art.
Afterwards, we just lay on the grass and chilled a bit.
We later met up with my friend Pablo and walked to Rosenbourg Castle and through the King's Gardens.
And the day was finished off at Paluden cafe for a good bye dinner for my friend, Shelley.

Frederiksberg Castle: May 20
I saw visiting mother for the last time on Friday. We went to Frederiksberg Castle. It was pretty beautiful. A toned down, more homey version of France's Versaille Palace:
She made us sandwiches and bought prayer day scones (scones filled with chocolate chips) for the both of us to eat at the park. And as a goodbye, she even bought me a book about Denmark.
I really enjoyed my host mom. She was quirky and cute, different from other Danish mothers I have met.
"Prayer day...yeah I don't know what it is. It's just a day I get off from work." (Prayer day is actually all the Saint holidays put together in one holiday)
"My daughter has no time for me. And I think it's because of her goddamn horse. She visits it more than me!"
"This is kind of boring, because they are all paintings of people I don't know."
Unfortunately I already forgot the other funny things she says. But I enjoyed her company and I am so glad I chose to have a visiting family during my stay in Denmark.

Gruntvigs, Bakken, Dyrehavn: May 19
Another great day. Started it off by paying a visit to Gruntvigs church,
Had a Danish hotdog BBQ at the beach near Dyrehavn, and had some jumping fun.
Then we walked through Bakken, the oldest amusement in the world (built in 1583)!
Bakken is located in Dyrehavn. Translated that means "deer park." Depending on the day, you can walk through the park and see many deer.

Malmo: May 18
The next few posts are going to be about how I spent my last few days in Denmark. I have no homework to do anymore since school is officially done, and so I'm just going to spend time enjoying Copenhagen, visiting places I've been to and haven't been to.
Copenhagen is just a short train-ride away from Malmo, Sweden. Julia and I took a lovely day trip to Sweden on Wednesday.
We went shopping, played in playgrounds,
And saw the Turning Torso,
It was a carefree day followed up with a walk through the Botanical gardens,
a "goodbye-have-a-safe-flight-home-tomorrow" Shwarma meal in Norrebro station with my friend Ben, and a night walk through Tivoli gardens with my Cal Poly buddies. Pretty perfect.

Carlsberg Brewery and Concluding Ceremony
Yesterday was something. I guess that's all I could say to describe it. Started the day off going to the Carlsberg (a Danish beer) Brewery:
It was also the day of DIS's concluding ceremony.
After the ceremony a bunch of us went to "the lakes" and drank some wine as sort of a final celebrational thing.
People are slowly starting to go back to the US and it's really starting to hit me that I only have about 6 days left in Copenhagen!
I don't really have a good way to word this.
It was a pretty emotional/great day. This year was great. I'm going to miss a lot of the people I met. I could wish that they all went to Cal Poly with me but I suppose meeting them for this brief while is enough.
